Roland G. Caldwell's Words Now Displayed at Entrance to Headquarters

Posted by Sheryl Vieira

When Roland G. Caldwell established Caldwell & Company in the 1970s, he may not yet have foreseen its successor, Caldwell Trust Company, which was founded in 1993. He most likely never envisioned the mature business it has become today—but he knew what a trust company should be and the high standards required of everyone involved. He formalized his philosophy in a document titled “What We Believe.”

Students at Venice High School Meet Economist Stephen Moore

Posted by Sheryl Vieira

“Kelly” Caldwell Jr. always stays close to his Venice roots. The CEO and president of Caldwell Trust Company, Kelly is also a graduate of Venice High School, a proud Indian who likes to share the benefits of his success. The most recent instance of this philosophy recently occurred when the company brought world-class economist Stephen Moore to the school.  Moore presented a talk about the current economic situation and his outlook to 450 junior- and senior-year students, followed by a lively question-and-answer session. “I’m bullish on the economy,” he told the group. (In Photo: Economist Stephen Moore, center, is flanked by Jack Turgeon, Venice High School principal, left, and R. G. "Kelly" Caldwell, Jr., CEO and president, at Venice High School.)

Thackers, Caldwell Trust support “Inspire A Child” at Robert and Joan Lee Boys & Girls Club

Posted by Sheryl Vieira

If you don’t know where you are going, any road will get you there.” That was sound advice over a century ago from Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, a mathematician, deacon, photographer and writer. One of his chosen roads benefitted youngsters: Under the pen name of Lewis Carroll he wrote Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Through the Looking-Glass and other books loved by children.

Fittingly, H. Lee Thacker Jr. and Suzanne B. Thacker have chosen Carroll’s advice for a plaque they donated to the Robert and Joan Lee Boys & Girls Club of Venice as part of its “Inspire A Child” initiative. The program has been designed to raise the final $100,000 needed to retire the mortgage for the $4.5 million club building, which opened at 920 Gulfcoast Boulevard in 2007. “Lee’s vision and leadership were instrumental in creating and financing that Club,” says J. Mack Reid, then-CEO and president of Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota County and now a member of Caldwell’s board of directors. “We couldn’t have done it without him.”

Giving from the Heart and Receiving Thanks

Posted by Sheryl Vieira

’Tis the time of year for our team at Caldwell Trust Company to review our sponsorship opportunities for the upcoming season. Last year, we supported more than 81 not-for-profits in our community. Some of our relationships are new while others have been longtime partners of Caldwell Trust Company, such as Suncoast Charities for Children, Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota County and the SKY Family YMCA in Venice.

Among our new relationships is Habitat for Humanity of South Sarasota County, Inc.  Chief philanthropy officer Doris Berkey presented Habitat’s sponsor packet to us last week. Its theme, “There’s No Place Like Home,” honors the 75th anniversary of the much-loved movie The Wizard of Oz.  Habitat’s packet overflows with the Wizard’s magic, encompassing Dorothy’s basket, which includes a heart-shaped key chain to represent the heart the Tin Man receives. In addition to the themed basket was a "Bachelor of Kindness and Giving" from the "Has a Heart University." Oh, Toto, how wonderful! We’re clicking our heels three times right now as our hearts expand with gratitude! The certificate was so thoughtful. It’s really nice when a thank you truly comes straight from the heart. It means a lot.
