VENICE, FL: The board of directors of Caldwell Trust Company recently awarded $5,000 in grants, with two grants totaling $3,000 to Sarasota Military Academy and a third awarded as a $2,000 scholarship to an SMA alumnus according to R. G. “Kelly” Caldwell Jr., CEO and president. SMA- MAJ Victoria Finley, advancement director of the academy, says the funds have been allocated as follows:
$1,500 for the SMA Cadet-to-Cadet mentoring program, to be applied to the purchase of a school bus for the program’s transport needs;
$1,500 for the technology needs at SMA Prep middle school campus, to be applied towards the purchase of iPads for the students; and
$2,000 as a scholarship to a SMA alumnus, a freshman at The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina;
The Sarasota Military Academy, founded in 2002, is a public charter secondary school and is the largest charter school in Sarasota County with over 1,500 students. The high school campus is located at 801 N. Orange Ave. The backbone of the Academy's charter is the Army JROTC program and at the SMA Prep middle school campus, 3101 Bethel Lane, Sarasota, on a military studies curriculum that focuses on the Medal of Honor program for all cadets.
