VENICE, FL - Alan H. Blair, Ph. D. and Certified Trust and Financial Advisor, has joined Caldwell Trust Company as a vice president and trust officer according to R. G. “Kelly” Caldwell Jr., president and CEO. Blair is based in Caldwell's Sarasota office at 8592 Potter Park Drive. He had previously been with SunTrust Bank in Sarasota, serving as senior regional trust officer and first vice president.
Blair has nine years of experience in trust administration and 34 years in higher education, including leadership positions in institutional advancement. "Alan brings us a wealth of experience in trust administration," Kelly Caldwell says. "In addition, his deep belief that the trust business is about personal relationships fits perfectly with the values that form Caldwell's founding principles."
Blair chose Caldwell, he says, because of its emphasis upon the delivery of client-focused services that build long-term relationships. He also values the fact that Caldwell is based in this area, with offices in Venice and Sarasota. "As a local company with local decision-making, Caldwell is able to respond quickly to rapidly changing markets as well as to the changing needs of clients and their families, " he adds.
Throughout his career, Blair has combined his backgrounds in education and finance, providing institutional advancement services to colleges and trust administration services to banks and individuals. A native of New York's "triple cities" (Binghamton, Johnson City, Endicott), he earned a bachelor's degree from Hobart College in New York. He served on the faculty of State University of New York from 1967 until 1976, then accepted an administrative position at a branch campus of Ohio University, where he remained until 1989. During his time at OU, he took a leave of absence to earn a doctoral degree from Michigan State University, with a major in higher education administration and a minor in organizational development from the MSU's College of Labor and Industrial Relations.
In 1989, Blair moved to Bradenton, Florida, where he served as executive director and CEO of the Manatee Community College Foundation, Inc., until his move to Sun Trust in 1999. He assists the Wagner College of Staten Island, NY, with its major gifts program, structuring planned gifts and presenting planned giving seminars on its behalf around the country to help people who want to help the college.
In addition to earning the designation of CTFA from the American Bankers Association, Blair is a graduate of the Cannon Financial Institute Trust School. He also holds certifications from the Executive Leadership Institute, Indiana University, and the Management Institute for Senior Administrators, Stanford University. Blair is a member of the Southwest Florida Estate Planning Council.
